Why you need to consider spaying/neutering your pets
So many benefits to this we have always spay/neutered out fur babies, found this an interesting article
Whether you have recently adopted a pet or you are planning to have one in your home, it is important to consider paying or neutering your pets. Spaying is the removal of ovaries and uterus of a female pet. On the other hand, neutering refers to the removal of testicles of a male pet. This procedure vastly improves the behavior of your pet. Many states and counties have established low-cost spay/neuter programs to improve the health of pets. Here are some of the reasons why spaying/neutering your dog or cat is important.
Your pet’s health
Studies have shown that spayed/ neutered pets live longer. This is because these pets do not roam in the streets like un-spayed ones. Roaming exposes pets to fights with other animals and possible accidents that could lead to their deaths. Also, when you spay/neuter your dog, you reduce its chances of getting different types of cancers. Un-spayed cats and dogs have a greater chance of developing uterine cancer, pyrometra and other types of cancers that affect the reproductive system. Neutered male pets have lower chances of getting testicular cancer.
Curbing bad behavior
Neutered pets focus their attention on their human families. This is not the case with un-neutered dogs and cats. This is because such pets spend a lot of time marking their territory by spraying smelly urine all over the house. Neutering may also reduce the urge to fight with other males, roaming and howling. To cultivate good behavior, you need to spay/neuter your dog or cat at an early age. Old dogs may not change the behavior even after neutering. Neutering also reduces aggression in dogs. Most dog bites involve dogs that are not neutered. Mounting, excessive barking and other dominance related behaviors can also be eliminated by neutering.
It is cost effective
Spaying/neutering can greatly reduce the cost of washing dirty walls and collecting litter everywhere in the compound. The cost of treatment when your dog escapes and gets into a fight with other males or gets testicular cancer can also be reduced. You will live at peace with your pet if you take the good step of spaying/neutering it.
